FSQA & Regulatory Manager

Reports to: General Manager & Dotted Line to Corporate FSQA Director

Job Summary: A FSQA & Regulatory Manager manages quality and regulatory matters and executes the strategy to ensure the organization complies with applicable regulations, all export certifications, and any onsite audits/inspections. Responsible for BrightPet Nutrition Group's Sherburne Manufacturing Facility “BrightPet Sherburne” and Warehouses; Food Safety & Quality Assurance program implementation and adherence in compliance to FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and Global Food Safety Initiative (GSFI) Standards. Key emphasis on the management of facilities QA/QC, GMP’s, SOP’s, SSOP’s, HACCP/HARPC and customer complaint resolution.

Essential Functions:

  • Compliance:

    • Implements processes and systems to ensure that all necessary licensing, filing, certifications, and permits are processed and monitored.

    • Maintain a growing number of export certifications

    • Maintain BrightPet Sherburne’s Organic certification

    • Utilize established monitoring policies and procedures to ensure compliance with existing regulations.

    • Anticipate new or changing regulations and coordinates and develop strategies to address changes in product, operations, or testing requirements.

    • Investigates and addresses all reported issues of non-compliance.

    • Leading and/or involved in all internal and external regulatory audits.

    • Oversees all FSQA and Regulatory Audits

  • FSQA:

    • Follow up on customer complaints. Identification of cause. Follow up to Management. Identify and document corrective action. Communicate to all affected by corrective action.

    • Ensures that the FSMA GMP’s and Compliance Programs are adhered to. Provide feedback to operators and manufacturing managers regarding non-conforming products and packaging. Document all occurrences by Corrective Action and validate resolution. Informs General Manager and Corporate Director of Food Safety of any food safety problems. Serves as the designee for the Corporate Director of Food Safety in dealing with reported food safety issues or maintenance of the FSMA Compliance. Alerts BrightPet's Sherburne facility Food Safety Team for need to update or modify SOP’s based on needed changes to the processes

    • Assume responsibility for own personal development and continuous learning.

    • Manage and monitor BrightPet's Sherburne facility Pest control program. Maintain contact with Pest Control Vendor including scheduling fumigations and other events necessary to maintain compliance with pest control program. Monitor weekly pest control reports. Work with maintenance to resolve any issues pointed out by vendor.

    • Ensure through direct observation and documentation that plant production is maintaining and adhering to policies, programs and FSMA federal guidelines with respect to FDA CFR 21, and AAFCO

    • Keep abreast on new technology, methods and regulations relating to quality methods and technology

    • Manages the FSQA & Sanitation Supervisor II

  • Administrative:

    • Support General Manager on special projects.

    • Review of product COA’s during receiving.

  • Communication:

    • Work closely with Purchasing Manager to ensure vendors and materials are up to date for certifications.

    • Communicate changes or emergencies with the Production and Purchasing teams.

  • Commitment:

    • Develop a personal plan to achieve company goals.

    • Participate in all company management training, meetings, and special events.

    • Must become PCQI certified within 1 year of acquiring position

  • Essential for Success:

    • Bachelor’s desired but will consider experience in similar roles

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • Experience writing and managing food safety programs

    • HACCP/HARPC Certified

    • PCQI Certified

    • GFSI (SQF or BRC) experience preferred

    • An effective FSQA & Regulatory Manager achieves the following benchmarks:

      • Ensures Southern Tier Pet Nutrition is in compliance at all times will all export and Food Safety guidelines.

      • Monitors current and upcoming regulations and write and implements new SOP’s when necessary

      • Works as an intricate part of the STPN management team
